In fact, it was the worst day of his life.

Freedy - "a full throttle" kind of guy, in his own words - was flat on his back in the hospital. The hard driving ways that had produced great success in business had taken their toll. "I was burning the candle at both ends," says Freedy. "And it just caught up with me."

"I was lying there, so weak I couldn't eat. Could barely sit up," recalls Freedy. "I knew I had to make some big changes. Winning at all costs wasn't working anymore. Then I remembered this supplement recommended by a friend. Melatonin."

And then it hit him. The epiphany.

"I thought, 'what if I could get a juice or a water infused with something natural, free of drugs, and that would help me sleep?' Something that tasted good, and more importantly helps calm my nerves and clarify my thinking." And thus, the concept of Mellow was born.

Freedy pursued his concept with relentless energy for over three years, enlisting along the way senior executives with deep beverage experience (see our Management Team page) before he was finally able to bring Mellow to market. All of our Mellow brand ambassadors believe in the soothing power of melatonin, and of the blend of herbs, botanicals and vitamins we call "Relaxidants."

"Melatonin helped change my thinking, and my life. I believe in it. It helped me break the cycle of my own daily grind. From there, I've been able to find my own path in life, something that's been so much more fulfilling."

Looking back from the vantage of today, Scott recounts "I started Mellow Beverage Co. as a company that will bring the benefits of melatonin, and a new, alternate way of thinking, to as many people as we possibly can. We like to say, 'Live the Mellow Life,' and to us, it's more than a marketing slogan. If we can reach out and touch just a few lives, then I'll say it's all been worthwhile."
